Teach your kid to clean up

2 to 5 years

Teaching our kids how to keep their stuff in order, whether they have a room or a corner of their own, puts important deposits in their bank of skills for being a grown up. Allow your kid to help you with home cleaning from early childhood - 2 and 3 years olds are fond of taking part in "adult" life, and that is a perfect opportunity to establish regular routines.

There are some tips to start with:

  • Set a good example. Kids are far more sensitive and responsive to what we do than what we say. What you do normally is what they come to see as normal and expected.
  • Whenever possible, make cleanup fun. Most children are much more willing to participate in a game of “Who can clean up the most toys before the three minute timer goes off?” instead of simply saying, “Clean up this mess right now!” Invent your own funny cleaning games - you both will surely like it!
  • Model a cheerful attitude when you’re tidying up around the house. If your kids routinely hear you griping and complaining as you load the dishes into the dishwasher or sweep the floor, they will naturally think of cleaning up as a dreary activity to be avoided at all costs.
  • Define clearly what it means to have a clean room. Make a checklist the kids can refer to with pictures for little ones, simple words for older ones.

Make photos of your kid cleaning your home up, upload to the App. Write how you arrange the process, add some words about the funny cleaning games you've invented.
