Play a finger game with your baby

Play a finger game with your baby

from 1 year 6 months to 3 years

Fingerplay is an intentional manipulation of the fingers to act out a sequence in accordance with a rhyme or musical story. The lilting words in song format also help to make this shared experience enjoyable, as a baby hears language that goes along with the “finger show.”

In this way, fingerplay activities facilitate the development and understanding of new words and their meanings. Also, all the while the fingerplay exercise is enhancing the baby’s memory through relating to the song and the coordinating finger movement.

The little train went up the track (hand runs up arm)
It went toot, toot,
And then it came back.
The other train went up the track
(other arm)
It went toot, toot,
And then came back.

I'll touch my chin,
My cheek,
My chair.
I'll touch my head,
My heels,
My hair.
I'll touch my knees,
My neck,
My nose.
Then I'll dip down and touch my toes.
