Read your baby the nursery rhyme "Little Tommy Tucker"

6 months

Little kids and babies are fond of nursery rhymes! Lots of the rhymes can be recited as poems or be sung as songs (e.g., Humpty Dumpty; Jack and Jill; Mary Had a Little Lamb; Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat; Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star). Some nursery rhymes are almost always sung as songs (for example, Row, Row, Row Your Boat; Sing a Song of Sixpence). Nursery songs also include lullabies (e.g., Hush-a-bye, Baby; Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star; Wee Willie Winkie) and game songs (e.g., A Tisket, A Tasket; Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush). Many researchers were interested in possible meanings of nursery rhymes. Some researchers believe that nursery rhymes are full of hidden meanings, that they describe historical events, and that the personages of the rhymes existed in real life. Other researchers think that most of the rhymes were created simply for children's entertainment and that only some nursery rhymes were really connected with certain historical events.***Little Tommy Tucker sang for his supperWhat shall he eat? White bread and butterHow shall he cut it without any knife? How shall he marry without any wife?L. Frank Baum wrote "The Story of Tommy Tucker" in which he offered his explanation of the meaning of this rhyme. Tommy Tucker, a hungry homeless boy, came to ask for some food in the house of a rich alderman who had just been married. The alderman promised to give him a large slice of white bread and butter if the boy sang a good song and fulfilled one condition. Tommy sang a good song, and the alderman told him the condition: Tommy must cut the slice of bread into four parts without a knife. To which Tommy replied that it was impossible to cut without any knife and asked the alderman how he could have married without any wife. The alderman was so pleased with Tom's witty reply that he not only gave him the bread and butter, but also took him into his house as a servant, and later Tom was adopted by the mayor of the city.Make photos of your baby listening to nursery rhymes.
