How to draw a Winter Forest

Bad weather is not a hindrance to walking through a winter forest, even if it’s an imaginary one. Spend time drawing with your child. This is one of the most rewarding activities for their age.

Your young artist will definitely enjoy working in mixed media, as you can use different drawing tools and apply different artistic techniques.

You will need:

• watercolor paper;
• simple pencil, eraser;
• watercolor paints;
• soft brush, jar of water;
• felt-tip pens;
• white gouache;
• cotton swabs;
• old newspapers or oilcloth for the table.

Ask your child to draw a winter forest.

1. Sketch the drawing on a piece of paper: draw snowdrifts and several triangular Christmas trees of varying sizes.
2. Ask your child to paint the sky with watercolors using the wet technique. To do this, moisten the desired area of the paper with water using a brush. Let your kid paint while the paper is still wet; for the sky, choose only cool colors - cyan, blue, purple, green and so on. Cool colors are those associated with snow, water, ice. Leave the sketch to dry.
3. Decorate the Christmas trees with felt-tip pens (hatching), while using warm colors - yellow, orange, pink, burgundy, red. Warm colors are colors associated with sun, fire, summer.
4. Trace the outlines of the trees and snow drifts with a black felt-tip pen.
5. Draw the snowflakes with a cotton swab and white paint. Show your child how to dip a cotton swab into a jar of white gouache and leave circular prints on the paper.

Your picture is ready! Such a winter landscape can be a wonderful New Year's gift for one of your relatives.

By completing this creative task, your child will learn to distinguish between warm and cool colors, and use different drawing tools all in one activity. Even a little painter can create a real masterpiece!
