Teach your kid to wash hands

3 to 5 years

Hand washing is one of the first ways to stop the spreading of germs - but getting kids to do it can be a challenge.

There are some tips to help you:

  • Make it easy and safe to do Little ones may find it hard to reach the taps and basins. So provide a child-safe stool or step they can use.
  • Make it a fun experienceUntil the habit is firmly in place, use fun-looking soap pumps or brightly coloured little soaps, maybe in fun character shapes, that are just for them.
  • Set up a hand washing chart.
  • Model good hand washing behavior Little kids are visual and kinetic learners – they learn best by seeing and doing. They also love to copy what Mum and Dad do. So make sure they see you wash your hands at key times and talk about what you’re doing.
  • Create rituals and routines Kids respond to routines so make sure they know when they should be washing their hands – for example, after going to the toilet, before eating, after playing with pets.

Make photos of your kid washing his/her hands, upload to the App. Write briefly about your home hand-washing rituals.
