Talking to your three week old baby

under 1 month

When the little one is not crying, you’ll find he/she is now making little ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’ and cooing noises when you talk to the baby, especially if you're holding your face close. Don’t forget your baby still can’t see far, around 30cms.

Even though they can’t understand yet, chat to them lots – you’re laying the foundations for their language development, which begins right from day one. If you put them next to a mirror you will notice them staring at their own face – not that they realize yet that it’s theirs.

It’s also a good time to hang a mobile over their crib, as it helps with the new skill of tracking objects with their eyes. The most effective are black and white or high contrast coloured ones as very young babies find high contrasts easier to pick out.

Make cute photos of your first conversations, upload to the App. Write about the little one's "words" and "songs".
